Nanban is baking without glaze.
Emphasizes the border between gold yakishime (high-fired unglazed) and the picture of the wave crest pattern.
Even the rough color is glossy,  because use water glaze.
Painted black and red the wave crest pattern on the white mud.
The semicircles that represent the undulations of the waves overlap to form a fan shape, and that pattern continues indefinitely.
The black wave crest pattern is a mug depicting the ocean that stretches out and the waves constantly coming.

 A Buddhist preist, Gyoki built a kiln and made earthenware in Seikanji.
 Now the ruins of the temple is called "Chawan-zaka". 

Kyo-style ceramics, Kiyomizu ware products are mostly handmade and the feature of that is in wide variety in small quantity.
