"Yosegizaiku " is a traditional Japanese craft with 200 years of history.

Kanagawa Prefecture, Hakone City is an area where there are abundant tree types.

Hakone Yosegizaiku was born in the background of such natural conditions.

Yosegizaiku is a woodworking technique that combines various kinds of wood and draws a pattern by use of each wood color difference.

The history of Yosegizaiku dates back to the Edo period (1603-1868).

This technology / technique was created by Ishikawa Nitake, who lived in Hakuhodo in Hakone town about 200 years ago at the end of the Edo period. Yosegizaiku of Hakone which became widely known as a souvenir of the travelers of Tokaido. Its representative is a traditional technique called "Zuku" which puts on a veneering of thinly shaved pattern on box etc. Shave many times by Canna(smoother), puts on together, and shave again. Most of the work, including making elements that are the basis of delicate patterns, is handicrafted by craftsmen.

"Muku Mono" is cut processed wood, and using a potter's wheel to make.

"Muku Mono" is furthermore shows more strongly the individuality of the tree.

Like the 'Zuku', this historical technique also features tea bowls, sake bowls, plates and bowls that stick to beautiful color schemes and designs with movement. It also adapts to the modern space.

Yosegizaiku is made of various kinds, textures and colors, creating unique and excellent patterns.

Yosegizaiku is combines the beautiful wood and the color of the wooden grain from the Nigaki(Picrasma Wood), Mayumi(Euonymus hamiltonianus), Mizuki(Cornus controversa) etc growing naturally in Hakone, "Asanoha" "Ichimatsu" "Karamimasu" "Hishiseigaiha" create various patterns.
