(Note) :

This is a miniature incense burner for Takaoka copperware made in Takaoka City, Toyama Prefecture, where copper and lacquer is produced. The design is an auspicious owl motif, and when you burn a incense, smoke comes out from ears hole.
Made by the craftsman using the traditional casting technique called 生型鋳造Namagata-chuzo.

生型鋳造Namagata-chuzo
This is the main technique that developed the Takaoka copperware. Put a master mold of the same shape as the product in the wooden or metal top and bottom frame, put sand and press it. A sand mold can be made by removing top and bottom frames and taking out the prototype. Pour the melted metal into this.

Takaoka traditional crafts
400 years old foundry town. Takaoka's skilled craftsmen manufacture it one by one carefully by old fashioned manufacturing method.
Overseas, it was introduced through the 1862 London World Exposition and the 1867 Paris World Exposition, and art copper ware has established a firm position as an export product.
