Kitayama Cedar
Kitayama cedar was designated as the "Tree of Kyoto Prefecture" in 1966. It has been produced in the northwestern part of Kyoto City since the Muromachi period. Cedar is called Sugi because it has a straight(直Sugu) trunk and a beautiful tree shape. It is characterized by its dense material, smooth and shiny bark, and resistance to drying cracks.
