Yuteki means "oil drop". The spots are not painted and not applied: iron in the tenmoku glaze saturates during the firing, rises to the surface as bubbles, and as each bubble bursts the iron left behind crystallises into a silver-white disc. Where the glaze ran thicker the discs crowd together; where it thinned at the rim it breaks to an amber brown. No two bowls come out of the kiln with the same scatter.
