[Shigaraki ware]
It is said to have started around the end of the Heian period and is one of Japan's six old kilns (Bizen, Tanba, Echizen, Seto, Tokoname, Shigaraki) that originated in Shigaraki Town, Koka City, Shiga Prefecture.
Shigaraki ware as a tea tool was prized since the end of the Muromachi period, and in the Momoyama period it was baked in Kyoto using Shigaraki soil. Inheriting its 1200-year history, it now produces a wide range of products such as bowl, pot, garden tables and chairs.
