Trying on a kimono in Kyoto is a must-do cultural experience. This time, we rented our kimonos from Kyoto Kimono Waraku, a popular shop in the Gion area. Walking through the city dressed in traditional attire turned our day into something truly memorable and special.
Rental Experience at Kyoto Kimono Waraku
Located just a minute from Gion-Shijo Station, Kyoto Kimono Waraku offers over 500 kimono options—all at a flat rate. We visited as a couple and were able to choose our favorite designs from a wide selection.
Men’s kimonos are also available in various elegant and classic patterns, making it perfect for couples or families to enjoy together.

The dressing process took about one hour, and optional hairstyling was available for an additional fee. The stylist created a beautiful updo that matched the kimono perfectly. While small accessories like bags and hairpins can be rented, bringing your own favorite items is a great way to make them lasting souvenirs from your trip.
Strolling Kyoto in Kimono
We visited landmarks like Kiyomizu-dera, Yasaka Shrine, and Hanamikoji Street. The traditional streets of Kyoto take on a magical atmosphere when you're wearing a kimono—it felt like stepping into a historical film.

While walking, a local photographer even approached us, offering to take a commemorative photo. Experiences like this make your kimono stroll feel even more special and unforgettable.
Café Break at Gion Komori
After some walking, we stopped by Gion Komori, a cozy teahouse renovated from a traditional machiya. Their signature dessert is the Matcha Warabi Mochi, which is incredibly soft, rich in flavor, and beautifully presented. Served with kinako and kuromitsu syrup, it’s a must-try!
