Braised Pork Spare Ribs with Daikon Radish – A comforting dish served in a shimmering Kyoto ware bowl

Today on Manekineko Ai Kitchen, we’re sharing one of our all-time favorite home-style recipes: Braised pork spare ribs with daikon radish.

Simple, nourishing, and full of umami, this dish becomes even more inviting when served in our stunning Kyoyaki “Hanakessho” (Flower Crystal) silver-wisteria oval bowl.

 Recipe: Braised Pork Spare Ribs with Daikon

Ingredients (Serves 2–3)

  • Pork spare ribs … 400g
  • Daikon radish … 1/2 (approx. 500g)
  • Fresh ginger … 1 slice
  • Vegetable oil … 1 tsp

Seasoning

  • Water … 300ml
  • Sake … 3 tbsp
  • Mirin … 2 tbsp
  • Soy sauce … 2 tbsp
  • Sugar … 2 tsp

Instructions

  1. Peel the daikon, slice into thick rounds (about 2cm), and trim the edges. Parboil if desired for extra tenderness.
  2. Blanch the pork spare ribs in boiling water to remove excess fat and scum.
  3. Heat oil in a pot and lightly sear the ribs on all sides.
  4. Add daikon, ginger, and all seasonings. Cover with a drop lid and simmer over medium heat for 30–40 minutes.
  5. Cook until the broth is reduced and flavorful. Serve hot!
